The Host By Stephenie Meyer Review

Hi Guys,

I have just finished reading The Host by Stephenie Meyer and I have loved it!

I love a book with a bit of every genre in it and who can beat a book filled with sci-fi *alien fans suddenly show interest*, romance *the people with aspiring loves and broken hearts look up* , action *action crazed teens approvingly nod at the book* and a hint of your fantasy *Narnia fans, Twilight Fans and your everyday dreamers eyes light up*.

I enjoyed the Twilight Saga and Meyer wrote it so brilliantly, filled with detail and compassion from the characters. Meyer topped it once again, I feel, and the movie thrilled me just as much as the book (the book just pipped the post).
The Twilight films never did the book justice, but The Host film was exceptional at telling the tale (every film misses some detail, that may be important to the book).

The Host is about souls from a planet called the Origin who come to Earth to take over and 'host' the human bodies. One soul called Wanderer hosts a body which still has the soul in, named Melanie Stryder. Wanderer and Melanie develop a bond and try to find Melanie's boyfriend Jared and brother Jamie. Melanie's Uncle Jeb and Jared end up finding Wanderer and Melanie half dead. Wanderer is treated like a slave/prisoner until she befriends Melanie's Uncle (the leader of the Resistance) and they understand that she means no harm. Wanderer has to convince Melanie's loved ones that Melanie still exists inside her. Wanderer misses death threats and solitary looks until she proves herself to them all. Wanderer falls for one of her captors who develops an emotion so strong for her. They survive in the desert for months, doing raids and mourning deaths from close friends and family. They learn a massive secret that could save mankind and use it to their advantage. Wanderer and Melanie then take their separate ways and remain the bestest of friends. Wanderer and Melanie find true loves of their own.

I recommend this book to anyone wanting a thrilling, gripping read and don't mind trying something... new.

The characters were given a depth to each and every one of them. Their emotions were shown subtly but strong enough so the reader understood and was aware.

I really enjoyed this book and I wish there was a sequel to it as I loved the characters so much and felt quite an attachment to them.

I give this book to PenPalsApproved mark (which will feature in a review if we enjoyed the book and feel it is worth it!).

Signed,
Pen Pal M

Review: Gone by Michael Grant

Hey Guys,
I have another review for you all. I bought this while I was away recently because I hadn't brought a book with me. After being recommended this book and as WHSmith were having a buy one get one for £1 sale I decided on getting 'Gone' and its sequel, 'Hunger', which I will do a review on soon because I am still reading it. You can buy 'Gone' here.

This book was gripping and kept you on the edge of your seat all the way through. This is probably one of the best teen science fiction books I have ever read.  This book follows a town called Perdido Beach where everyone over the age of 15 has disappeared in the blink of an eye. As the story unfolds it shows people developing powers and the main character, Sam, fighting the bully, Caine. Secrets are revealed and the kids must fight for survival, even if that means hurting others and death.

I feel that as this book has a very interesting front cover that I must mention it. I know people say, don't judge a book by its cover; however, this cover is very unusual in my opinion. It has a black cover with the word 'Gone' in black with a yellow glow effect around each letter, and below, in grey, are the words 'It's a world without adults, and normal has crashed and burned...'. The front cover, because it is so plain, doesn't reveal very much about the book itself.

Anyone who loves science fiction will really enjoy this book, I did anyway!!

I give this book to PenPalsApproved mark

You can buy 'Gone' on Kindle here, on Kobo here, at WHSmiths here and a Waterstones here.

Review: Inferno by Dan Brown

Hey Guys,

Sorry, I never finished 'Speed Freaks'... it just didn't really interest me like the others did. However I have read all of 'Inferno by Dan Brown.

As Dan Brown is one of my favorite authors, I had high expectations for this book. It did live up to the expectation I had , like his other books, was gripping and I couldn't put it down. There have been a few bad reviews online, saying that his books are repetitive, and, yes, I can agree with that, however, the style he writes in, the themes and the plot lines, are what sells and makes him money and as long as people are buying his books he will continue to write in the same style so the negative review aren't going to change anything about his books.

This is the next book in his series of books with Robert Langdon, which include the infamous 'Da Vinci Code' book, the second in the series. As with the 'Mortal Chaos' series, you don't need to read the first book to read the last.

This book has an interesting twist to it at the end and surprises you as the boom unfolds. Anyone out there who has enjoyed his previous books will thoroughly enjoy this, especially if they have not read one in a while. I love how his books start with a mysterious beginning that makes no sense but slowly, as you read the book it begins to make sense. By the end everything is revealled to make an amazing, slightly unbeliveable recovery and soloution.

If you have loved his other book you will certainly enjoy this one, even if it is a little predictable.

Don't forget to comment about what you thought about Inferno.

Pen Pal E :)
